With over twenty years in the recruitment industry, spanning diverse sectors and leadership roles, I’ve built a solid foundation of expertise and insight. After studying Chemical Engineering and Business at the University of Strathclyde, I jumped straight into recruitment, quickly gaining exposure across the full spectrum of staffing and consulting.
My career has spanned permanent and contract recruitment, executive search and specialised international talent sourcing. I’ve also delivered consulting projects using SOW and time-and-materials models.
My experience has allowed me to develop advanced sourcing strategies, enabling me to tackle even the most complex recruitment challenges.
As recruitment evolves with the rise of in-house teams, direct advertising and Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO), I believe this has furthered emphasised the importance of sophisticated sourcing and attraction strategies to meet these demands. In my view deep-dive approaches remain essential for connecting with high-demand talent and filling niche roles.
Outside of work, I’m passionate about football. I coach Stirling Albion’s under-15s and enjoy supporting my two children in their own football journeys. When I’m not on the pitch, I’m an avid distance runner and a regular at the gym, relishing the challenge of endurance sports.

With 20 years in recruitment, I’m proud to have built lasting partnerships with candidates and clients alike. My journey began in the engineering sector, where I earned several awards and since then, I’ve expanded into FinTech, Finance and Technology. Working across these industries has given me the privilege of further learning and personal growth from people I consider to be the best mentors in the recruitment field.
As the Recruitment Director at Adaptive Careers Limited, I prioritise a people-first approach to recruitment, focusing on permanent placements and effective stakeholder management. For me, true purpose needs to come from truly understanding the businesses I work with, which is why I make it a point to get to know my clients and meet clients face-to-face wherever I can —often over coffee (maybe a wine!). Building authentic connections is at the heart of everything I do.
I’ve consistently delivered top-tier talent into engineering, financial services and technology sectors. At First People Solutions, I had the opportunity to lead teams and oversee large-scale staffing projects, ultimately advancing to Director with a focus on quality and long-term client satisfaction. At McGregor Boyall, I was lucky enough to meet two of the best recruitment leaders in the Scottish market and it is a real privilege to be working alongside them now. I learned much about the FinTech, Financial Services and IT industry from them before moving to a Talent Acquisition role at abrdn. I got the chance to sleep, eat and breath recruitment from an internal point of view – made easier by the team I worked with. The experience has given me a far greater insight to the stakeholder management piece as well as the vast amount of systems and processes you need to navigate as a TA.
Outside of work, I love to spend time with my family, friends and my nutter red border collie, Murphy. I love holidaying in the West Coast of Scotland, being by water and escaping the bustle of the City.

I’m Sam, and I’ve spent over 17 years in the Scottish IT recruitment market, where I’ve built a strong network of trusted contacts and gained a solid understanding of our ever-evolving technology sector. As a Director at Adaptive Careers, I’m passionate about connecting talented professionals with amazing opportunities while helping businesses grow through effective recruitment.
I’ve had the pleasure of managing some large accounts, supporting SME clients through the end -to end permanent and contract recruitment process, and contributing to the growth of consultancy IT contract businesses. My expertise covers a wide range of tech areas, from application support and database management to software development and IT security.
When I’m not matching great candidates with fantastic roles, you can find me spending time with my wife and two kids, enjoying family activities, sipping on a good whisky, or cheering on my favourite football team.
